Mercy does need to come through. Casuistry needs to return. There are many people trying to do the good and the right and they are alienated because they try to avoid being in bad situations. In church leadership, there seems to be a pick and choose attitude and standards are not universally applied. I'm just happy Pope Francis is trying to get us to become a more divine church by stressing our common humanity. I am grateful for the new attitude of tolerance, but I am sick to death of hearing from the pulpit the bashing of divorced people. And we are all painted with the same brush, or should I say beaten with the same stick. And yet most of us - at least the ones that I know - in my parish are not co-habituating or in second marriages or gay relationships. But the beatings continue. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could get to the place where we just treated everyone with a little kindness and understanding no matter what their specific circumstances.
