The 23 pilgrims landed safely
in Tel Aviv after sound flights from the Boston-Istanbul-Tel Aviv route. The plane
meals were quite fine.
All the pilgrims are off to
bed after completing a buffet dinner consisting of many salads, vegetable,
fruits, with the customary hummus and Middle Eastern cuisine. All the honey
desserts were gobbled up.
Our tour guide has a Master’s
Degree in hotel management and has complete a certificate in archeological
studies. He is quite knowledgeable of our Christian history with its intersection
with Jewish and Islamic history. We are staying for six nights in the Ararat
Hotel in Bethlehem right next to Beit Shahour, the field of the shepherds who
gathered early to see the newborn king. We have a full day around Bethlehem
(the House of Bread because it was known for its bakeries) planned for
tomorrow.
We will be meeting the Living
Stones, the actual Catholics (and Christians) who live and work in the Holy
Lands. They comprise 1 percent of the population.
At tomorrow’s Mass at the
Church of the Nativity, we will remember you in prayer.
