Breathing is an important aspect of prayer and it leads to our mindfulness. The path to return home to ourselves begins with the breath. If you know how to breathe, you can do anything else. Breathing promotes communication between the mind and the body.
Breathing becomes our practice of freedom. When we focus on our breath, we release everything else, including worries, fears about the future, regrets about the past. We notice what we are feeling in the present moment. Being there for ourselves, through our breathing, takes just a few minutes and can be done in most settings.
When we notice others are breathing in and out, they look free. When we are overloaded with fear, anger, regret, or anxiety, we are not free. Real freedom comes when we are able to release our suffering and come home to ourselves.
Freedom is the foundation for happiness and it is available with each breath.
Mindful breathing is not as familiar as we would think. We begin by taking in a slow sustained breath that fills up our belly, as if we are about to yawn, or as if we are sipping through a straw. We take in that breath slowly and deeply, and then we hold it for a few second before we release it with the same slow, prolonged, controlled pace by which we took in our breath.
If we can repeat this exercise at least three times, we will find that we connect our mind to our body, and we return home to ourselves.
Loneliness is the suffering of our time. We hunger for love but we do not know how to generate love in order to feed ourselves with it. We have the fundamental instruments for communication, and we have to make sure it remains unblocked. Breathing slowly is our start.
We learn about our body, feelings, emotions, and perceptions and as we sit down and connect with ourselves
